Now, some people recommend Nasi Kandar Line Clear but to me I'm more comfy at a non crowded place. So we picked Khaleel Nasi Kandar along Gurney Drive for our lunch of nasi kandar.
The name nasi kandar actually originated form how it was sold,
previously vendors carried 2 tubs of rice hanging on a pole balanced on a
shoulder. The word kandar can roughly be translated as carry. So the name got stuck but of course nowadays no one does that anymore. It's considered a Mamak food.
The Gurney Drive waterfront. Parking can be a headache at peak hours and night time. Lucky for us it's a bit pass lunch hour thanks to the drive from Balik Pulau.
Your typical nasi kandar will have you staring at a plate of rice heaped with various gravy (if you request for it) of all sorts of curry and dhal. Then comes the side dishes of ayam masak kicap, ayam masak merah, squid curry...
... vegetables e.g. cabbage stir fry, fried bitter gourd, and fried fish eggs. Nobody ever says it's a healthy choice of food (shrug) but hey, you don't go Penang to gorge your face with healthy food.
