Escaping the heat in Georgetown, we went to Bukit Bendera at the Air Itam area, also known as Penang Hill. To get to the top, you need to take a train from the station here at the base. This station has been there since 1923, some refurbishment done here and there. It used to be more antique looking when I last visited in my younger days.
Last time it used to be a red metal coach that was very crowded with no
air - conditioning. In contrast, now we are riding an electrical coach
that is air - conditioned and more comfortable with safety poles
installed. Still crowded, but less hazardous.
The view at 833 m (2,723 ft)above sea level... And the clean air... Pretty refreshing compared to the heat and din down there in Georgetown. Its average temperature is between 20-27 degree celcius.
Only certain parts of Penang Hill are being developed, scattered with private bungalows, hotels, diners, picnic area and parks. The northern are is used for water catchment.
Take a buggy ride to tour Penang Hill, they are available near the station. Pretty comfy ride for RM35, a buggy can fit about 6 person. There are drop-off points at bird watching areas and attractions, you can liaise with the driver to come pick you up at certain hour after you are done.
