Masak - masak Melayu ~ Sup petola

Easy vegetable recipe for lazy people, fast and cheap, no need to think too much. Goes along with anything, increase or decrease water content to your liking and season with salt to taste.


1. Lean chicken breast, sliced thinly into small slivers. Can substitute with small prawn / anchovies


2. the main vege - petola @ Ridged gourd. I usually cut off the ridges, slice then halve the slices.

3. 3 shallots, sliced thinly
4. 2 cloves of garlic, sliced thinly
5. 1/2 a red chilli is suffice for me. Sliced thinly
6. 2 Tbs of cooking oil
7. salt and black pepper to taste
8. 2 cups of water

Some people adds suhun, a kind of thin noodle.

Preparations:
1. heat oil in a pot, then stir in the shallots, garlic. Stir fry till fragrant
2. add in the chicken, wait until half cooked then add in the petola.
3. Add water and bring to simmer over small flame.
4. stir in chilli, season to taste with salt and pepper. At this point you can add in the suhun too.

You can thicken the soup with some corn flour too.
